Session Summary - 03/23/14

Sgt. Pepper orders them to Windhill where they investigate what has been killing the town’s livestock. It turns out to be a large flesh golem named Ricky who is killing sheep by having sexual relations with them. After first attempting to set a trap with a stuffed sheep with a bear trap inside, they later decide it’s necessary to track down the creature’s master, which turns out to be a retired battlemage named Erasmus. He rewards the party for Ricky’s return and reunites him with his golem lover, Eduardo.

Having saved the sheep of Windhill, they begin tracking the goblins and eventually discover their camp, which is setup outside some sort of fortified cave. The goblins appear to be taking all the food they steal into the cave.

Session Summary - 03/16/14

The party is led to the quarry by Corporal Archibald. A small tent is pitched around the hole in one wall where the ruin has been discovered. At first it appears to be a single room with a closet, but they later uncover a secret passageway leading into a larger complex. In the closet they find a skeleton with a sign saying, “Return me to my master upon his reincarnation.” He also has a metal plate nailed to his back with the words “Property of Pentheus Furio” engraged on it. It was obviously installed while he was still alive. Feeling that the skeleton needed to be released from his curse and fearing Sgt. Pepper would kill him, the party attempts to dress him up as Aloysius. Unfortunately, the guards don’t fall for thsi plan and the skeleton ends up in the prison in Fort Haldole. They later find the skeleton’s bedroom and determine his name is Drof.

Deeper in the ruins, they zombies, skeletons, and an Allip, but are nearly overwhelmed by a swarm of spiders. In the final room, they find what is supposedly the corpse of Pentheus Furio, and there’s a grand display of magic intended to reincarnate him, but it ends with a fizzle. The party concludes the magic either failed or Pentheus has already been reincarnated. In the altar, they find a magic staff believed to have belonged to Pentheus, which they eventually give to Jafreese for “safe keeping.”

Session Summary - 03/09/14

PCs were led in chains to Haldole and introduced to the fort commander, Sgt. Pepper. On their first night in town, they go to the bar, Rosie’s Cheeks, where Aloysius unsuccessfully hits on Rosie but does convince the barkeep that Jafreese will pay their bill when he next comes back. They learn Sgt. Pepper is looking for a “crack team” for special missions, and become highly motivated to be selected because they believe it will lead to their indentured service ending early.

The next day, they are tested against other groups of recruits and prove their worth. Sgt. Pepper asks them to look into a matter at the quarry, where they have uncovered some sort of ruin.

Introduction & Character Creation

It’s been 10 years since the League of Unsavory Gentlemen banished the storm god, Indra, back to his home plane and reforged the seal around Midgard.

You are in jail in the city of Merrowhaven.

Dissatisfied with the notion of prisoners taking up valuable space in his already crowded dungeons and eating his valuable food (not to mention the extensive administrative expenses involved in running said dungeon), Merrowhaven’s wise and powerful ruler, Baron Henri Gaucher, devised an alternative solution. Prisoners whose offenses can be realistically forgiven (i.e. those who won’t be executed) are given the chance to earn their freedom. You see, the baron has this little goblin problem…

The goblins of Humbolt Hills were beaten into submission long ago, so they pose no true threat to the security of the provinces, but they also reproduce like nymphomaniac bunny rabbits. As such, the problem never truly goes away. They frequently raid towns and farms on Baron Gaucher’s eastern lands. The problem is below the attention of his valuable Solari, and maintaining a standing militia to deal with the problem – well, that’s even more expensive than running a prison! As you can probably tell by now, Baron Gaucher is a somewhat frugal person.

Hence the Work4Freedom program was established, whereby prisoners are released from jail and given the opportunity to earn their freedom by assisting in the various goblin raids in Humbolt Hills. After one year of service, they are declared free, with all of their transgressions forgiven. In some cases of exceptional service, prisoners earn their freedom even sooner.

This is the situation in which you find yourselves. You and your fellow party members are part of the latest group of prisoners released into the Work4Freedom program. You will all be traveling to Haldole, a small city on the edge of Humbolt Hills at the border between Suncoast and The Vale. There you will report to Sergeant Randall Pepper, who will instruct you as to your further duties.

A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.
